In an editorial published in Ressalat, a fundamentalist newspaper, Mohammad Kazem Anbarloui warned of the the possibility of a take-over of the UK embassy, similar to the siege on the American embassy in 1979, if the government does not cut ties with the UK.
JARAS: According to a JARAS report, Anbarloui writes:
It seems that the British Embassy in Tehran is taking its duties beyond diplomatic norms. People have protested in front of the British Embassy to express their resentment toward acts of interference committed by London. The hostile role the British government has played in hindering Iran’s progress, particularly with respect to acquiring nuclear technology; their destructive role in post-election events by orchestrating a psychological warfare through media under their control, in particular BBC; removing MKO (Mujahedeen Khalgh Organization) from the list of terrorist groups and employing its members in the street unrest; and participation in imposing sanctions on Iran, leave no doubt that the British government has grown more hostile toward Iran.
He added in Resalat’s editorial:
Now in the high level of government, especially the cabinet and the Parliament, the question has been raised that what reason exists for maintaining the current level of diplomatic ties with the UK, while we are witnessing all these hostilities? People are demanding we reduce or even sever our [diplomatic] ties. If this request is not respected, it is possible that, in response to British delinquencies, an event similar to “*Second Revolution” capture of the United State’s spy nest—could happen to England. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
* 1979’s takeover of US embassy and hostage taking that ensued was described by Ayatollah Khomeini as the Second Revolution after the first one which overthrew the Shah.
