Prisoners at Evin’s Ward 350 Begin “Political Fast” in Solidarity with their 17 Brothers on Hunger Strike

Summary: The prisoners at Evin prison began a “political fast” in solidarity with the 17 prisoners of conscience transferred to solitary confinement and on their 13th day of hunger strike.

According to reports from RAHANA, the prisoners at Evin’s ward 350 began their fast in solidarity with the 17 political prisoners who are now on their 13th day of hunger strike in solitary confinement.

It has also been reported that political prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison also began a “political fast” in solidarity with their brothers at Evin prison.

Despite the dire physical condition of a number of the political prisoners on hunger strike, the families of these prisoners have been kept in the dark with regards to their condition and are extremely concerned.

These 17 political prisoners have entered their 13th day of hunger strike, and yet their families have had no contact with them what so ever. Many of the family members of the political prisoners who had gathered in protest a few days ago in front of the office of Tehran’s Prosecutor and Evin prison faced severe clashes with security forces.

Ali Malihi, student activist and member of Daftar-e Tahkim Vahdat (student alumni organization), Bahman Ahmad Amouie, journalist, Hossein Nourinejad, journalist and member of the Participation Front (reformist party), Abdollah Momeni, student activist and spokesperson for Daftar-e Tahkim Vahdat, Ali Parviz, student activist, Hamid Reza Mohammadi, political activist, Jafar Eghdami, civil society activist, Babak Bordbar, photo journalist, Zia Nabavi, starred student and member of the Council to Defend the Right to Education, Ebrahim (Nader) Babaie, civil society activist and an injured veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, Kouhyar Goodarzi, human rights activist and blogger, Majid Dorri, student activist, Majid Tavakoli, student activist, Keyvan Samimi, journalist, Gholamhossein Arashi arrested during an Ashura protest in Tehran and Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad are amongst the prisoners transferred to solitary confinement and on a hunger strike.

It is worth mentioning that Peyman Karimi Azad, arrested after the events of Ashura in Tehran suffers from diabetes and was transferred to the hospital two days after beginning his hunger strike. There is no news of his condition to date.

Also, Bahman Ahmadi Amouei, Keyvan Samimi and Majid Tavakoli have been on a dry hunger strike (no food or water) for four days now.
