The 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court issued its verdicts for Khadijeh Moghaddam and her husband, Dr. Khosro-Shahi.

RAHANA – The 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court acquitted Khadijeh Moghaddam on 2 counts of propaganda activity against the regime and disobeying police order, but found her guilty of assembly and conspiracy with intent to act against national security. Moghaddam has been sentenced to one year suspended prison term which can be enforced in the 5 years that follow the verdict.

According to Nasrin Sotoodeh who represents the feminist activist, the final court hearing was held on November 4, 2009 where her client presented her final defense. For unknown reasons, the judge decided to send the case back to the Intelligence Ministry for further investigations and asked the ministry for their opinion. Judge’s action to ask the opinion of a certain ministry once the final defense was presented, was unlawful or at least raises doubts as to his impartiality, Sotoodeh said. She and the other lawyers, who present the case, plan to appeal the verdict.

Moghaddam husband, Dr. Khosro-Shahi who was the codefendant was acquitted on one count of propaganda activities against the regime. Khosro-Shahi had been given the charge for interviews he gave 2 years ago during his wife’s detention. Iranian law does not consider interviews as illegal acts.
