Mehdi Karroubi in a meeting with the members of the Mojahedin of Islamic Revolution organisation (reformist) discussed the day’s events.

In this meeting Karroubi strongly criticised the rude language used by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in one of his latest speeches addressing the US president and said that this kind of behaviour is an insult to Iranians’ ancient civilisation. Karroubi said: “Unfortunately the language used by Ahmadinejad was not appropriate for a [so-called] president! It is interesting that they call these behaviours and actions that make more enemies, wisdom and policy!”

Karroubi while pointing out the dark history between Iran and US said that the tensions between the two countries have existed for a long time and although in face of any possible attack Iranians will always defend their country united but emphasised: “Making enemies is not a talent. The wise strategy is to reply relationally and based on evidence so that the public conscious of the nations and governments would see the truth, such that the threats would be relieved and turn to opportunities.”

Karroubi with regards to Ahmadinejad’s insulting comments about the parliament in which he accused the member of parliament of “not knowing anything” and his conflict over the bill about the economical subsidies said: “The very nature of the parliament is very important. If today they insult the parliament like this, tomorrow there will be no credit left for the parliament.”

Mehdi Karroubi by pointing out the trend of the arrests and pressure put on political prisoners said: “The ideology that sees its survival in continuation of tensions is costing the establishment the most.”

Karroubi said: “Unfortunately we were informed that in order to put more physical and psychological pressure and insult the political prisoners they put them in the same cell with dangerous criminals like drug dealers and felons. They arrest women and girls based all sorts of minor excuses while according to our religious and revolutionary values the dignity of this part of the society should be honoured even more.”

He added: “The everyday insults, lies and false accusations are now more similar to a political marathon! So that one would think that those who insult and lie more would become dearer for the rulers! By using these methods they are trying to indicate that we are against the revolution, turned our back on religion and are against the establishment!”

Mehdi Karroubi continued: “They think that by increasing pressure and their everyday extensive insults and false accusations they can have control over matters and through their propaganda machine cheer that “they are dead and gone”, but they don’t know that we still believe in the constitution and all of its capacities and are standing stronger than before and are demanding the [full] execution of the constitution.”

At the end, he raised government’s attention to the fact that: “A specific party or group is not responsible for the protests. Know and beware that today’s world is standing on the basis of technology and communication and people play an undeniable roles in it, so recognize people’s roles.”
