Onward toward a Green Moharram

“If you have no religion, at least be free.”

– Imam Hossein (ibn Ali)

December 8, 2009

Planet Iran Editor’s note: Following the successful Student’s day protests throughout Iran on December 7th (16th of Azar), the next wave of protests has been slated for the 27th of December which marks the Shiite holy day of (which in Arabic means ‘the 10th’), the 10th day of the month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Shi’a Muslims observe the day in mourning for Hussein and his family who were murdered in the desert of Karbala (modern day Iraq); the observance can take different forms from simple parades, processions, passion plays, prayers and meditation to gatherings in the street where men self-flagellate with chains, metal whips and even hitting themselves on the head with knives and Kammahs till they bleed. You can see the five part video by clicking .

As Ashura and the entire month of Moharram (which officially begins on December 17th) is a significant month of mourning for the Islamic regime and especially Ashura being of utmost importance, the Iranian Green Wave has chosen that day for it’s next wave of protests against the regime that hypocritically commemorates the murders of Mohammad’s grandchildren but thinks nothing of beating, imprisoning, raping and executing innocent Iranians.

On that day, we Iranians call upon all our friends and supporters around the world to stand with us and support our movement against those who disgrace the word of Imam Hossein and who in the guise of their “faith” violate the rights of all mankind and continue their reign of terror on humanity at large.
