Four men who were detained by Dublin police on Wednesday evening, June 9th and charged with public order offences during a protest against the visit by Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki have been released without charge.

During an address to the Institute of International and European Affairs in central Dublin, attended mostly by diplomats and academics, Mr Mottaki was confronted by protesters. The two protesters who made their way inside the building were attacked and beaten by Mr Mottaki’s own Iranian security guards in front of the audience who calmly looked on as the protesters were attacked. Irish Garda police captured and escorted one out of the building, while the other was chased with sticks by the Iranian regime bodyguards of Mottaki. AP footage below show one of the demonstrators being pushed down the stairs of the building in North Great Georges Street.
