Mahboobeh Karami, a member of the 1 Million Signatures Campain, was arrested at her home last night.
RAHANA – Mahboobeh Karami was arrested last night at her home by intelligence agents who had a warrant for her arrest. The agents also seized a number of items belonging to Karami and her brother.
According to Karami’s brother, Mohsen, the warrant was dated May 26, 2009 and cited participation in riot and illegal gatherings as the reason for arrest. According to Mohsen Karami, his sister has been their father’s main caregiver since last year, and has not have time to engage in other activities.
This is the 5th arrest for Mahboobeh Karami, who was arrested twice in relation to 1999 student protests. She was arrested a third time in June 13, 2008 for acting against national security and released 70 days later. On March 26, 2009 she was arrested again along with 11 other members of the Campaign as they were on their way to pay a Nowruz visit to the family of Zahra Bani Yaghoub. They were released 13 days later.
Karami has been acquitted of all previous charges. There is still no information on her whereabouts.
