October 15, 2010 Iran’s foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, says Iran wants to discuss specific dates for talks with six major powers on its nuclear program after a European Union offer for a new round of meetings.

Mottaki, speaking on a visit to Brussels, said the EU offer was “good news.”

The European Union’s foreign affairs chief, Catherine Ashton, who represents world powers in nuclear talks with Iran, on October 14 proposed a new round of meetings in Vienna in mid-November.

The talks between Iran and six powers — Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and Germany — have been stalled for a year.

The talks are aimed at addressing international suspicions that Iran is seeking the capability to make nuclear weapons under the guise of its civilian nuclear program, a charge that Iran denies.
