Russia has introduced a ban on the sale of certain kinds of weapons to Iran.

According to President Medvedev’s decree, Russia cannot sell Iran heavy weaponry and air defense missile batteries, including S-300 missiles which Iran had planned to purchase earlier.

The decree was issued in implementation of the UN Security Council’s resolution on Iran which was passed in June this year and which broadens the scope of the arms embargo against Iran.

Russia supports extra sanctions against Tehran to be introduced in response to its refusal to cooperate with the international community on its nuclear program.
