Reformist websites and foreign news agencies say former Iranian cabinet minister Ahmad Motamedi has been stabbed at Amir Kabir University in Tehran.

The reports, which have not yet been independently confirmed, say Motamedi was rushed to a hospital with stab wounds in his chest after the perpetrator attacked him in his office.

Motamedi was minister of Information and Communications Technology during the presidency of reformist Mohammad Khatami before he began teaching at the university.

He joined the opposition movement against President Mahmud Ahmadinejad before last June’s disputed presidential election.

His children were arrested after having attended protest rallies criticizing the president.

The websites claim that university guards apprehended the attacker but do not offer details.
