Service workers of district seven (7) and zone three (3) of Tehran’s municipality are protesting utter cruelty and extortion at the hand of their lawless employer, a sub-contracted company and total silence of the mayor’s office and central municipality; they are demanding the direct supervision and mandate of the mayor of Tehran, on the illegal operations of this sub-contractor.

A group of the protesting workers told the Dastranj reporter: “ It has been three (3) months since the employer has paid the service workers of district seven (7), zone three (3) of Tehran and although the workers put in a compulsory twelve (12) -hour-day, the employer continues to willfully neglect the workers claims.” They added: “During these three (3) months the workers insurance has not been paid into the social security organization and there is no sign of the base salary of the workers, their children’s trust, and housing allowance.”

Workers also reported that it has been an entire year since they were given new work gloves and shoes. They stated: “The employer says that workers who are sweepers don’t need gloves and that providing this protective and sanitary implement is worthless and extra.”

It is important the mention that these workers indicated that their benefit cards which documents all of their health conditions have not been sent to them either and that the work and pay conditions of over one hundred (100) Afghani service workers is even more troublesome.
