Grand Ayatollah Saanei in a meeting with a group of university students said: “If you respond to violence with violence then your reform movement will not have any result. Make your slogans, Imam Hossein’s slogans and be assured that he is the savior and will save us too.”

His Holiness added: “Don’t forget Ashora (the anniversary of the day Imam Hossein was martyred) and the mourning in Moharram (the first ten days of the month leading to the anniversary of Imam Hossein’s martyrdom); and persist on getting your rights and be present anywhere and in any place that is talk of defending the oppressed.” He added that Imam Hossein will protect those who are mourning for him.

Grand Ayatollah Saanei, by referring to the disgracing of Imam Khomeini’s picture said: “Those who claim to respect him must also respect the bases of his views. Imam Khomeini said that the scale is the nation’s vote and beware that no one should repress the other.”

Grand Ayatollah Saanei added: “Imam’s way in his revolutionary movement was not to have someone go and someone else comes but rather he wanted that freedom comes and poverty goes. Imam Khomeini wanted to remove oppression and tyranny otherwise there was no need for all these bloodshed, imprisonments and tortures.”

In continuation of his remarks, His Excellency added: “All the attempt of Imam Khomeini was first to execute the law and second the law gets executed by pure and honest people”. He added that everything the government has is from Imam and the nation and if they realized that they would not humiliate the nation anymore.

His Excellency by reminding that in a country that the fundamental of its government is the people’s vote, dictators and narcissists cannot take the power and added: “We wanted of the revolution a government come to power that protects the nation’s rights and that was what Imam and people sacrificed for.” He added it is not only the one who commits a crime is responsible but also those who remain silence share this responsibility and whoever hears the cry for help of a Muslim and doesn’t help is not a Muslim.

In another part of his remarks, His Excellency added: “I am sorry that there is pressure on the youths while they are standing up to protect their religion and beliefs and I should warn that creating anxiety for the people and especially the youths is of the sins that the almighty will not forgive.”

Grand Ayatollah Saanei emphasised: “Powers will never survive by oppression and tyranny, this is a teaching of the Quran and almighty God whenever decides will make it happen.”

At the end of his remarks, Grand Ayatollah Saanei added that people must be informed that Imam Hossein’s movement was for reforming the political and economical affairs of the society and for guiding people and his movement was not for killing someone. His Excellency added that people must be informed that Islam teaches us that one cannot achieve what it wants by oppression, torture, imprisonment and murder.
