An Israeli grandmaster has taken the Guinness record for simultaneous chess games away from the previous holder, who is Iranian.

Alik Gershon, 30, is now the record holder after winning 454 of 523 games he played against opponents over the course of nearly 20 hours.

The previous record holder was Morteza Mahjoob, who won 397 of 500 games against opponents in August 2009.
