Unconfirmed news published on Sunday June 27 indicate the imminent execution of female Kurdish prisoner Zeynab Jalalian is to take place early in the morning Monday June 28. RAHANA has contacted the attorney at law Khalil Bahramian to verify this news.
In an interview with RAHANA, Mr Bahramian, who had tried to serve as Zeynab Jalalian’s lawyer a while ago, said: “I made several follow-ups after hearing this issue; however, I could not find any other reports and am not aware whether the news [of Zeynab’s imminent execution] holds true to not.”
Mr Bahramian continued: “Although Zeynab should be detained at the public ward of Evin prison now, she has been transferred to Evin ward 209 which increases the concerns about her situation.”
“I do not have any phone number or contact information from her family and relatives, therefore I have not succeeded in filing her defense bill,” he added.
Mr Bahramian also said: “In case the authenticity of this news is confirmed, the only way to halt the execution is by contacting the UN Secretary General, so that through his intervention we could follow up Zeynab’s fate and halt the execution”
Zeynab Jalalian was arrested in 2007 in the western city of Kermanshah and transferred to Kermanshah prison. Recently news upon her transfer to the ward 209 of Evin prison was published although the reason of this transfer remains unknown.
The Amnesty International has released a number of regarding Kurdish prisoners at risk of execution, including Zeynab Jalalian.
