Nourizad on Hunger Strike after Prison Beating

On Tuesday, May 18, Nourizad was taken from his cell to the prison yard, where he was brutally attacked by 5 security personnel of Evin Prison. The journalist has suffered concussion and impaired vision as resulting of beatings, according to Evin’s doctor.

According to Kalame, following the unlawful actions of prison guards, Nourizad went on hunger strike and has stopped drinking and eating since 3 days ago. The journalist has reportedly told his family that he will not survive if the present conditions continue. Nourizad who was held in a 2-men prison cell prior to the attack, has now been moved to a cell at ward 240 that lacks window, ventilations and sanitary facilities.

Mohammad Nourizad  was arrested on December 21, 2009, after he published three letters critical of Khamenei and Larijani on his website. He wrote a 4th letter to the Leader from Tehran’s Evin Priosn. In his first trial, Nourizad was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 50 lashes.
