Mourning Mothers’ demands unconditional and immediate release of Parvaneh Maddah-Raad

picture from archive

Once more, the ‘Mourning Mothers’ call out for justice.

How long should mothers suffer because of the injustice and tyranny of the leaders? How much longer will they get beaten and have their human rights denied?

A 53 year old mother Parvaneh Maddah-Raad was arrested on a [Tehran] street during Tasooa. She is held captive in section 209 of Evin prison, living under inhumane conditions. Also, she has not been permitted to meet with her family.

Her only crime was verbally condemning the beatings inflicted on a young protester (who she states looked around the same age of her own son who was recently killed) by the guards.

What would have you done if you were her? What kind of mother can keep silent when she witnesses the brutal beating of her child? Any other mother would have done what Ms. Maddah-Raad did to protect the children of her homeland.

Her only utterance was, “Leave them alone,” and “Don’t beat them.” Is the phrase “leave them alone” so intolerable that she must be imprisoned?

How long will the inhumane treatment of mothers continue?

There is no doubt that with the arrests, the voice of the ‘Mourning Mothers’ will not fade away. Instead, the voice will get louder and louder until all those who are unjustly in prison become freed.

The ‘Mourning Mothers’ and their supporters condemn the arrest of Ms. Maddah-Raad, and demand the unconditional release for her and all other political/ideological prisoners.

Also, ‘Mourning Mothers’ requests from human rights organizations to help spread the mothers’ yearnings for social justice and freedom.
