Hamed Rouhinejad’s Death Sentence Reduced to 10 Years Imprisonment

The death sentence of Hamed Rouhinejad, an accused prisoner of recent events in Iran, was reduced to 10 years of suspended imprisonment by the supreme court.

According to the report from the Thought and Expression unit of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran, Khalil Bahramian, the lawyer of Hamed Rouhinejad, reported the reduction of his client’s death penalty to 10 years of suspended imprisonment by the provincial court appeal.

Hamded Rouhinejad, a young political prisoner, was arrested by security forces before the June 2009 Presidential election and accused of being involved with a political organization.

After the election and the eruption of widespread anti-government protests, through intimidation and false promises, Rouhinejad was forced to plead guilty in a show trials which resulted in issuing a death penalty by branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court. Rouhinejad is currently held at section 350, and is in reportedly in bad health condition. He had repeatedly expressed through letters, conditions of torture and intimidation that forced him to plead guilty.
