Fath’ollah Bayat – The director of the temporary and contract workers union, in an interview with the Islamic Student News Agency (ISNA) said: “During the last session of the Islamic Parliament (Majles), due to the cooperation of one of the members of Parliament who was able to stir up some movement toward the issue of the amendment of item seven (7) of the labor laws, the issue was at least brought to discussion in the Majles but unfortunately when the resolution was brought to the floor of the Majles, it did not glean the necessary votes.

He mentioned that during the new session of the Majles this amendment will be re-presented and he added: “In this amendment it states that for jobs that are continual and therefore permanent, temporary contract are simply pointless. After the amendment in memorandum two (2) item seven (7) of the labor laws, two million (2000000) workers who presently make up sixty (60) percent of the workers and work on temporary contracts, will become permanent. The director of the temporary and contract workers union indicated that workers have no job security and regarding the temporary work contracts he emphasized: “On the other hand, those temporary sub-contracting companies whose restructuring and even elimination had been promised by the authorities, continue on with their activities.”

Based on memorandum two (2) item seven (7) of the labor laws, jobs whose nature demands permanence and continuity, unless they are as such mentioned in the contracts, are unfortunately not considered permanent.
