In a letter to the judiciary, Iranian journalist and social activist, Jila Baniyaghoob, called on Abbass Jafari-Dolatabadi, Tehran’s general public prosecutor to release her journalist husband, Bahman Ahmadi-Amoee from solitary confinement into the prison’s public ward until his court hearing.
Bahman Ahmadi-Amoee was arrested during the post-election protests and after 65 days in solitary confinement was finally transferred to the public ward of Tehran’s Evin prison. Shortly after that however, he was returned to solitary for complaining about unsanitary conditions of Evin’s ward 350.
Ms. Baniyaghoob further explains that her husband is prohibited from receiving or making any phone calls or visits while in solitary confinement. He is not even permitted to have pen and paper in order to prepare for his defence. According to Baniyaghoob, Ahmadi-Amoee’s trial will be held on December 12 and that so far the charges against him are quite unclear. She adds that her husband’s attorney has so far not been given access to his file and that in the coming days he will once again attempt to gain access to obtain them in order to prepare for the upcoming hearing.
Baniyaghoob and Bahman Ahmadi Amouyi were both arrested together the week following the election. She was released after two months on a bail of one billion rials ($100,000 USD).
