French Daily Newspaper Le Figaro reports: Prior to traveling to Iran, the IAEA inspectors who were to inspect the Ferdo Iranian nuclear facility outside of Qom, met with Shahram Amiri, the Iranian nuclear scientist who recently fled Iran. According to le Figaro, this meeting took place in Frankfurt.
The IAEA team arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning and after a two day inspection returned to Vienna on Thursday from the previously concealed uranium enrichment site.
Le Figaro wrote, Shahram Amiri who was a member of the group that established the Ferdo site provided precise information regarding the capability of this site to the IAEA inspectors and to western countries.
Previously United Press International had reported that the discovery of this installation had added to international concern and misgivings regarding Iran’s nuclear program and that European and American officials are convinced that Qom’s Ferdo installation is in fact for the enrichment of uranium and for building nuclear weapons.
In recent months Iranian regime-run website Jahan News had reported that Saudi sources had claimed that one of Iran’s nuclear experts, one Amiri has become refugee in Saudi Arabia. Amiri had travelled to Saudi Arabia under the pretext of going on pilgrimage and there he requested asylum.
Then in early October Iran accused the US of involvment in Amiri’s flight from Iran. The Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) wrote
“there are rumors that Shahram Amiri, who went missing during a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia in June, wanted to seek asylum abroad.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki did not confirm that when he made the allegation. Mottaki did say however: “We have found docum.he said.
In response to Mottaki’s allegations, Iran Kelly, US State Department spokesman said: “We don’t have any information on this individual”.
Amiri disappeared more than three months before the disclosure of the Ferdo Uranium enrichment facility.
