German Radio reports: Mohammad-Ali Jafari, Chief Commander of the Revolutionary Guards has for the first time admitted to the support of a number of their agents’ support for the leaders of the opposition movement. He said that it is better to convince them back than to have to have a physical confrontation, whereby they would have to be eliminated.
Fars News, the media arm of the Revolutionary Guard also wrote: Mohammad-Ali Jafari who was speaking at the launch of the first series of the Defense Readiness Program Trainers, on Saturday, July 22nd, responded to questions regarding the reasons why the dissident guards who support ‘the leaders of sedition,’ have not be dealt with. He replied: “They have been convinced that their actions were wrong and that their acceptance would be preferable to any physical confrontation and ultimate elimination.”
It is worth mentioning that this is the first time where any Iranian regime official has admitted to such discord within the ranks. What Jafari did not admit to however was the number of agents and the issues that have lead to dissent.
Jafari added: “A lawful prosecution of ‘the leaders of sedition’ will take place in time. They themselves have realized that they’re of no value to the people anymore and that is the biggest strike against them. If we do not use the opportunities at hand, we will end up having to revisit the same problems a few years from now. Our focus is on religion and coming ever closer to the construction of a greater Islamic society.”
Following the fraudulent June 2009 elections in Iran, various people within the ranks of the Iranian regime itself, such as Mir-Hossein Mousavi, Mahdi Karoubi and other leaders of the opposition have been called ‘the leaders of sedition.’
On June 12, 2010, the Yaaraan Coalition Movement operatives which is comprised of trained members of the IRGC, several members of the armed forces, and agents of the intelligent forces, all dressed in civilian clothes, forced their way into the National Radio & TV station, and after confronting the security guards (without bloodshed), took control of several key offices and the building security. The takeover led to a disruption of the regular programming including the 7 o’clock News hour.
