Reza Rafiei Foroushani has stated that he has published this letter of “Grievance” in order to “recall right from wrong” and to investigate his “trampled rights”.

In this letter which is published by RAHANA for the first time, this journalist has complained of the injustices he has suffered, and has mentioned the “collusion” practiced by Judge Salavati, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), and Ministry of Intelligence in order to “conceal” the truth.

In the opening remarks, Reza Rafiei Forushani has stated that: “Publishing these notes as an open letter means that it has been written on official papers distributed inside the prison, and as the deadline for its investigation has been over and no effective action to consider this grievance has been carried out by your Excellency, neither have you verified having received this letter, all the legal procedure has been followed and I have had no other option besides publishing this plea and complaint as an open letter for the public.”

Reza Rafiei Forushani has also disclosed the tortures he had tolerated during his detention and declared he was forced to make confessions about “having an affair with the wife of a member of Iranian Parliament”.

Reza Rafiei Forushani, a freelance journalist who has contributed to Iranian and international media including The Times, was arrested on 27 June 2009 and taken to Evin prison. The lower court had initially sentenced him to 7 years of imprisonment, but the Court of Appeals later reduced this sentence to 3.5 years in prison.
