Two bombs exploded in the Public Mosque, in the south eastern city of Zahedan, Province of Sistan-Baluchestan today. Based on reports from eyewitnesses at 9:30 p.m., two suicide bombers were able to enter the mosque where 27 people were killed and more than 300 injured. Jundallah or the People’s Resistance Movement of Iran (PRMI), an Iranian Sunni rebel group whose leader, Abdol-Malek Rigi was recently executed by the Iranian regime claimed responsibility as retaliation.Today is the day that the Iranian regime  calls ‘Revolutionary Guard Day’.

The following statement was released by Jundallah:

Jundallah or the People’s Resistance Movement of Iran (PRMI) hereby announces to the people of Baluchestan and Iran that tonight two devoted and immortal children, in an unparalleled operation were able to send tremors into the heart of the Revolutionary Guards inside the Zahedan Hosseiniyeh (a club and library for the devout) where the Revolutionary Guard day gathering was being held and where more than a hundred Revolutionary Guards, servants of the Party of the Devil (Hezb al-Shaytan) were sent to the eternal burning fires of hell.

The two precious young men, Mohammad Rigi and Abdol-Baaset Rigi took charge of this operation and taught a lesson to the evil tyrants, showing them that they will pay for their crimes and diabolical methods.

In the first part of this operation the eminent Abdol-Baaset Rigi placed himself in the middle of the Revolutionary Guard ceremonies and by killing himself, was able to also slay tens of the intelligence and disciplinary forces who have taken over and snatched power. Then following that, the martyr Mohammad Rigi was able to complete the mission by reaching the same group and delivering the second blow.

This operation is a response to the continued crimes of the Iranian regime in Baluchestan, where they thought that by murdering our righteous leader, Abdol-Malek, that our operations will cease. But the two young men who sacrificed themselves to destroy the dreams of the overlords and tyrants and by giving up their lives proved that this struggle will continue till the day that the violators and criminals are no longer.

May the devoted children who had vowed to fight till the last drop of blood in their veins rest in peace and be protected by the Lord above, so that the Muslim people of Baluchestan can rule over themselves.

On May 28, 2009 another blast rocked a mosque in Zahedan (below video) where Iranian regime agents had gathered. The blast which killed 25 and injured 125 others occurred less than 3 weeks before the June 2009 presidential elections. The Iranian government promptly accused the United States of having financed and orchestrated the attack in order to destabilize the nation in the lead up to its presidential election. Two days after the attack, three men were publicly hanged (bel0w photo).

UPDATE:

> On Friday, July 16th, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission called on the US to answer for the two suicide attacks in Zahedan. He told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA): “These events are the direct result of US and British intelligence services supporting terrorist groups in the Middle East.”

Esmail Kosari, deputy chief of Iran’s National Security Commission and Chief of the Basij militia also accused the US, Britain and Israel of financing terrorist attacks in the region. Kosari maintained that these attacks have nothing to do with the Shiite or the Sunni but are masterminded by the US, Britain and Israel which are trying to instigate a war between the Shiite and the Sunni in the region.

Also, speaking from the pulpit at Tehran’s Friday prayers, hardliner Mullah Kazem Sedighi accused the U.S. of masterminding the bombings in order to divert the world’s attention from the case of the Iranian nuclear scientist, Shahram Amiri’s return to Iran (video directly below). Sedighi said: “Since the US has lost face in the case of Shahram Amiri and the reputation of its intelligence has also become questionable, through this crime, they wanted to divert attention from their defeat and disgrace.”

In it’s Friday edition, Fars News, the Iranian regime-run news agency reported that Yadollah Javani, Director of the political bureau of the Revolutionary Guards said: “Given Abdol-Malek Rigi’s confessions (prior to his execution) one cannot have any doubt that the United States is directly involved in this terrorist bombing.

>> Also in the wake of the bombings, Hossein-Ali Shahriari, the representative of the province of  Sistan and Baluchestan to the Iranian Parlimanet (Majles) resigned his position. Two other MP’s from that province, Payman Foroozesh (representing Zahedan) and Abbass-Ali Noora (representing Zabol), have also threatened to do the same.

In his letter of resignation to Ali Larijani, chairman and speaker of the Majles, Shahriari wrote: “Despite repeated follow-ups by yours truly, there was unfortunately no action taken by authorities to at least preserve the life and property of the people. I am resigning my post in order to protect the security and civil rights of the people of Zahedan.”

The three representatives of Sistan and Baluchestan criticized the lack of management of the province, stating that due to the Iranian regime’s willful negligence and manipulation, ethnic, tribal and religious conflict has skyrocketed, leading to violence.

Following the bombing on Thursday night, unknown individuals set fire to a bazar outlet where a number of shops owned by Baluchi business owners were set on fire. According to Adel Mazari, publisher of Sobh’eh Zahedan (Zahedan a.m.) last year, following the May 28th bombing, a similar incident occurred. These types of incidents never occurred before and now they seem to be on the rise as a result of the tensions between the various tribes, ethnic and religious (Shia and Sunni) groups. And though the elders of the various groups frown on such reactions, it is the younger members of each group that react.”

Good update. Zahedan seems to be a conspicuous target for some reason. I have been speculating about it since May 2009 in my little old WordPress log.
