Advar News the media arm of the Alumni Association of the Office for the Consolidation of Unity (Advar’eh Tahkim’eh Vahdat) reports: Abol-Reza Ghanbari who was prosecuted in one of the trials following the Ashour protests (December 26th & 27th) has been found guilty of Harb (combating God) and has been sentenced to execution.
Forty two year old Ghanbari is a resident of the poor section of the town of Varameen and is a teacher. Ghanbari who is a teacher has been deprived of receiving any legal representation and has not been allowed to meet with a defense attorney even. Reportedly his only crime is participating in the popular anti-regime protests during Ashoura and chanting slogans against Khamenei.
Following his arrest he was taken into custody in a detention center directly supervised the the intelligence arm of the Revolutionary Guards and was prohibited from contacting his family. On January 31st he was indicted and due to pressure and torture was forced to confess to crimes he did not commit. He had been being held in solitary confinement since his arrest but has recently been moved to the prison’s public ward.
Like other detainees sentenced to execution, his case has been taken to the appeals division of the court.
