Dr. Hesam Firoozi was arrested last night after intelligence agents raided his house.
RAHANA – Dr. Hesam Firoozi, a human rights activist and physician who has many political prisoners among his patients, was arrested by intelligence agents who took him to an undisclosed location.
According to a RAHANA reporter, Dr. Firoozi was arrested at his home by 15 agents who were waiting for him after he returned from a visit to the house of Alireza Firoozi, his detained nephew. Dr. Firoozi’s wife and his son/daughter were still at Alireza Firoozi’s house at the time of the arrest.
After searching the house, the agents went to a neighbor’s house where they arrested one of their children, Hemaseh Ghafari after conducting a search. Ghafari who is an ordinary citizen with no history of political activities, was arrested for being Dr. Firoozi’s neighbor.
During the search, Alirez Firoozi’s mother arrived at his brother-in-law’s house and was also interrogated by the agents. Her son, Alireza Firoozi, was arrested 2 months ago and has been held incommunicado since.
The agents then moved to Alireza Firoozi’s house and conducted a house search.
Dr. Firoozi had been released from Evin in May of 2009 after serving a 15-month prison term. There is still no information on the reasons for last night’s arrest or Dr. Firoozi’s current whereabouts.
