The beautiful people of Persia need the world's help to shed this evil. They know they will pay a certain price for intervention but the talk on Tehran's streets express desperation. If we shut down their country they will take it back from the Mullahs. We can help them rebuild what the Persians want. Freedom. They know their leaders are crazy. They don't want any part of the regimes delusional plans to sacrifice them for Ahmadinejad's and Kameini's religious fanaticism.

Both gentlemen neglect the most glaring component of Iran's Power Play. For the IRGC and the Mullahs, this is not about building a regional power. This is not about the Regime being around later. The Messianic beliefs of the Twelvers are at the core of everything Iran's Regime is doing now. They do not care one wit about being destroyed or their country and it's citizens being turned to toast as long as the chaos that they initiate brings about the Mahdi's return. The entire movement is bent on setting the whole Middle East aflame. Life on Earth is nothing compare to life in Paradise. Deterrence will absolutely not work and they have no, none, nada, zip interest in engagement unless it furthers those plans through deception. It is time for the world to PREVENT WW3 by stopping Iran now, dead in it's tracks. Completely disarm Iran (a couple of EMPs) and take out completely Hamas, Hizbollah and Syria and NKorea. Yes, lot's will die. Some people will be furious but most of the world will sigh a huge sigh of relief. It will blunt Radical Islam's march. It's that or WW3 and the death of at least millions. Everyone thinks oh but all of Islam will rise up if Iran is attacked. mmmmm......NO. Iran's brand of Shia is mostly hated and most consider the Twelvers as loonies. Wise up world. Shut your mouth and do the work.

At risk of piling on here, and not really "in the know" about these people or this subject, I must say that sincerity seems to be on the side of Mr. Ledeen.

What's this about the U.S. affirming the Algiers Accords? Do you realize the U.S. HAD to sign that accord because they had the U.S. and 444 hostages by the BALLS? How could you dare to deem this agreement as anything but a contract of adhesion, forged under extreme duress? By using this agreement as THE standard for one that affirms the diplomatic rights of Iran v. the U.S., it is clear Mr. Leverett has Iran's strategic interest in mind, not the U.S. All his phoney baloney talk about U.S. needs, U.S. urgency, blah blah is a ruse to get the EARS in Washington to listen to his tune.

Apologist? Certainly you jest! Mr. Leverrett is actually a de facto AGENT! How else was he able to gain diplomatic access to Iran's highest officials and bring back a package of their messages? Mr. Leverett is actually their MESSENGER. And this debate was not for the public, it was for the U.S. government.

Mr. Leverett uses veiled intellectual arguments instead of just making accusations outright. His "couched" accusations word for word ape those of the blood sucking islamic regime. Such As:
He said several times that Jundullah blew up several IRGC officers RIGHT before the Iranians were going to agree with the 5+1 group on a nuclear agreement and Jundullah was not on the terror list, etc. He did NOT come out and connect the two events. He wants us to do that so we can't blame HIM for saying such accusatory remarks. Mr. Leverett, do you believe the U .S. is supporting Jundullah? What is your point? Are you accusing the U.S. of something that you are afraid to just come out and point out?

And I think your "China" analogy is not so much an intellectual comparison as a platform for you to send more Islamic Republic messages not to the PEOPLE, but to the U.S. government: Such as:
"Get your navy patrols out of the Persian gulf." You did not come out and say this, you just said that's what Nixon said about China.
Do you think we should get our navy out of the Middle East? If so, then COME OUT and say it! And if you Do, then we know for SURE you are a de facto diplomatic messenger for the Iranian government.

your red carpet status with the Islamic Republic is a patent violation of your position at the New America Foundation, and greatly endangers their IRS / tax status at a not for profit Washington think tank. If you want to lobby, just go become a lobbyist.

Oh, and next time you are given the red carpet treatment by the Islamic republic, take note that THAT carpet is drenched with the blood of thousands of young iranian dissidents you and your beloved Hillary are trampling on.

Oh, and instead of a tour of Tehran so-called University's so-called American Studies department - how naive of you - you should ask to be given a tour of Rajai Shahr prison, where you can visit Mr. Osanloo, the labor leader, and Evin prison, especially ward 209, where Iranian dissenters are being eleectrocuted, raped and beaten as we speak. Really.

Flynt Leverrett is a shameless apologist, simple as that. He's another typical cronyist and self-important career politicos (the likes of which are a dime a dozen in Washington these days) who uses, in this case Iran, to instill doubt in public opinion. He uses his position to manipulate and influence those who want to believe that people with his title, know what they're talking about but it is clear that he is either ideologically OR financially motivated.

Mr. Leverrett says he went to Iran and saw this and that; despite all that, he is still not Iranian and does not have to live there. During his trip to Iran he is toted around by the murderous regime agents (whose agenda he repeats like a broken record) and never once does he say anything about connecting with the core of the Iranian society.

He's a self-loather who thinks that this somehow entitles him to use Iran to wear his hatred for his own society on his sleeve. Mr. Leverrett I suggest you go and live in Iran for a year at least before you dare to prescribe these absurdities for Iranians...and while you're at it, take your wife and daughter with you.
