Freezing temperatures killed a Kurdish small merchant while another man lost his leg in a landmine explosion
RAHANA – According to a RAHANA reporter, Mahmoud Mohieddin was taken to a hospital in Orumiyeh on February 24, after he lost a leg in a landmine explosion in the border region near Piranshahr.
Earlier this week, Rasoul Aboubakr died in an Orumiyeh hospital after being critically injured in another landmine incident near Piranshahr.
Additionally, according to Kurdistan Media, on February 21, a Kurdish merchant identified only by his first name, Nozad, died in Golibarash near Orumiyeh as a result of freezing temperatures.
Every year many Kurdish residents of the border regions die in landmine incidents or as a result of security forces opening fire on them. Poverty and lack of economic opportunities have forced many to transport merchandise across Iran-Iraq border as means of subsistence.
