In a phone call on Saturday, February 20, journalist and civil rights activist Noushin Jafari told her family that she was being held in the public ward of Evin.
RAHANA – Noushin Jafari, the detained Etemad reporter, called her family from Evin on Saturday and gave the news of her detention in the public ward. Jafari also said that she has yet to be interrogated and is unaware of her charges.
Jafari was arrested in the early hours of February 3 at her home by agents from the Intelligence Ministry. The agents also seized her computer and other personal items. Jafari worked for the cultural affairs section of Etemad daily and does not have a history of political activities.
In recent months, the wave of arrests has reached journalists who cover cultural issues as well as literary critics. Hasan Zohori, who worked for the Cultural Heritage new agency, and author and literary critic Khalil Darmanaki were among the recent detainees. Zohoori has been released since but Darmanaki remains in prison.
